Why plants help

Plants break up sight lines, soften the tank, and give bettas places to explore and rest near the surface. A planted tank can feel calmer and more secure than a bare tank.

Easy live plants

Anubias, Java fern, Java moss, and many floating plants are beginner-friendly choices. Anubias and Java fern can attach to wood or rock instead of being buried in substrate.

Floating plants for bettas

Many bettas like cover near the surface, but floating plants should not block all access to air. Leave open surface space for breathing and feeding.

Silk plants vs plastic plants

Soft silk plants are usually safer than sharp plastic plants. If a decoration can snag delicate fabric, it may also damage long betta fins.

How to choose plants

Pick plants that match your light, maintenance routine, and tank size. Avoid crowding the whole aquarium, because bettas still need open swimming space.
